On behalf of the organizing committee, I have the great honor and pleasure to welcome you to the XVIIIth edition of the National Conference of Cardiology with international participation, a traditional meeting of the cardiology community from this part of Europe.

Vineri, 6 iulie 2018 de la ora 18:00 a avut loc în cadrul Congresului CardioNET festivitatea de premiere a tinerilor cercetători doctoranzi care activează în cadrul centrului de cercetare din Clinica de Cardiologie Tîrgu Mureș.

Aceste premii au recompensat activitatea de excelență  desfășurată de tinerii doctoranzi, care s-a concretizat in 10 proiecte de cercetare elaborate de colectivul de cercetare și prezentate la Congresul CardioNET de tinerii doctoranzi sub formă de “study design” sau ca rezultate preliminare, după modelul studiilor clinice europene.

Premiile au constat în stimularea participării și prezentării rezultatelor proiectelor la diferite congrese naționale și Europene pentru a reprezenta școala de cardiologie târgumureșeană la aceste manifestări (Congresul Național de Cardiologie Sinaia, Congresul CardioNET 2019, Congresul European Acute Cardiac Care, Congresele Europene de Imagistică Cardiacă și Congresul European de Insuficiență Cardiacă).

Din cei 25 de doctoranzi care activează în Clinica de Cardiologie au prezentat designuri de studiu 10 doctoranzi, iar premiile acordate au fost următoarele:

Theodora Benedek, MD, PhD, Habil, FESC

Theodora Benedek is professor of cardiology and internal medicine in the University of Medicine and Pharmacy of Tirgu Mures, Romania. She is the Director of the Department of Internal Medicine in this university, head of the Clinic of Cardiology and President of the Committee for Scientific Research of the Senate University. Since 2008, she works at the European Commission as external expert and reviewer for FP7 and Horizon 2020 programs, serving since 2015 as Vice Chair of the Life Sciences panel in the Marie Curie fellowships program. She published more than 200 articles in extenso in peer-reviewed journals and 7 books and book chapters. She is the Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Interdisciplinary Medicine, a peer-reviewed journal indexed in 8 international databases, and her editorial activity includes also the position of Managing Editor in one Thomson Reuters indexed journal (The Journal of Critical Care Medicine) and in several peer-reviewed journals (Journal of Cardiovascular Emergencies, Acta Medica Marisiensis). Prof. Benedek is member in the steering committee and coordinator of all Eastern-European centers in the Discharge trial, financed by the European Commission within FP7 program, and has participated in 10 research grants financed by the Romanian Ministry of Research and the Romanian Academy of Medical Sciences and in more than 30 clinical trials in the field of cardiology. At the same time, Prof. Benedek created and coordinates the Center of Advanced Research in Multimodal Cardiac Imaging in the Cardio Med Medical Center, Romania. The main fields of her research interests are related to cardiac imaging, CT assessment of coronary artery diseases, stem cell therapy in cardiovascular diseases, heart failure and acute cardiac care.

He graduated at the Medical University of Pecs, Hungary in 1983, and has been a medical doctor in various positions since then in the Department of Intensive Care and also in the 1st Department of Medicine, at the University of Pecs. At present he is a full Professor and Chair of 1st Department of Medicine, and a specialist in internal medicine, cardiology and anesthesia and intensive care. He worked as a research scholar at the Department of Physiology and Biophysics at the University of Southern California, Los Angeles, USA, between 1990-91 and as a visiting assistant professor at the Division of Cardiology, University of Toronto, Canada in 1993. The main areas of his scientific work are hemorheology and experimental cardiology. In these fields he received C.Sc. (Ph.D.) degree in 1992. In 2003 he became a doctor of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences (Sc.D.). Since 1996 he has been directing a Ph.D. program, 27 colleagues have received their Ph.D. degree in his program so far. He is a member of several national and international organizations, out of which it must be highlighted that he is the founder and since 1993 also the board member of the Hungarian Society of Hemorheology, having been its president between 2000-2006. Since 1993 he is the Member of the Advisory Board of the International Society for Clinical Hemorheology having been its president between 1995–1999. Since 1994 he is the Member of the Advisory Board of the European Society of Clinical Hemorheology and Microcirculation and also its Vice-President since 2013. He is the President of the Hungarian Society of Cardiology. Between 1998-2002 he received Szechenyi Professor Scholarship. In recognition of his outstanding scientific networking activities he was awarded the Organizational Science Award from PAB (Regional Committee in Pecs, Hungarian Academy of Sciences). In 2015 he received the Oguz K. Baskurt Hemorheology Award from the International Society for Clinical Hemorheology for his major contributions to clinical hemorheology. He is the member of the editorial boards of several national and international scientific journals. He is the leader of graduate and postgraduate training in both cardiology and internal medicine at the University of Pecs. He was the Vice-Dean for Scientific Affairs at the University of Pecs, Medical School, Hungary between 2004-2006 and between 2006-2008 Vice-President of the Medical Center, between 2009-2010 the Rector’s Representative, between 2010-2012 the Rector’s Chief Adviser. He is the Chief Medical Manager of Social Infrastructure Operative Programme (TIOP) and since 2014 also the Vice-Rector for Scientific and Innovational Affairs. He is the author of 216 peer reviewed papers with a cumulative impact factor of 228,912 and citations of 2388.

Conf. Dr. Adrian Iancu is an Associate Professor in Cardiology at “Iuliu Hațieganu” University of Medicine and Pharmacy Cluj-Napoca, head of the 3-rd Departament at Clinic of Cardiology.

Among clinical studies in the field of interventional cardiology, during the last four years, Dr. Iancu’s research was also focused in the area of acute myocardial infarction, carotid stenting, treatment of carotid in-stent restenosis and the antiagregant therapy in coronary stenting. Significant research issues have been spent by therapies focused toward the microvascular obstruction in acute myocardial infarction. Original contributions of Dr. Iancu was represented by the development of a new method of microvascular obstruction treatment in acute myocardial infarction. These researches were published in the Karger’s journal: Cardiology ,The Journal of American College of Cardiology and JAMA.

Christos Chatziantoniou, PhD is currently co-director of the Inserm UMR 1155, at Tenon Hospital, Paris France. After his graduation from the School of Chemistry (University of Thessaloniki), he obtained a master in Organic Chemistry (University Paris VII) and then a PhD in Biochemistry (University Paris XI). After a two-year post-doctoral training in the University of North Carolina, he joined the same university as Research Associate in 1990. In 1993 he obtained a Young Investigator fellowship from the EU and moved to Paris to join the Inserm U64. In 1995 he obtained a tenured position in Inserm and promoted to the rank of Research Director in 2000. He is Vice-Chair of the Inserm Study Section “Heart, Vessels, Kidney, Lung, Blood & Muscle” and member of the Direction Committee of ‘Physiology & Physiopathology” Doctoral School, University Paris VI. Major distinctions are: French Academy of Medicine Awards in 2015 and 2004, the “Europe and Medicine” Senior Award 2005, and member “Faculty 1000 Biology”. He serves in several European or National evaluation committees. In the beginning of his career he was interested in the mechanisms controlling renal hemodynamics during the development of hypertension. Then he switched gradually to the Renin-Angiotensin System and the mechanisms involved in Chronic Kidney Disease with particular emphasis to renal fibrosis and inflammation. His current focus is to identify new biomarkers predicting the outcome of renal function and to find novel targets for therapy of CKD.

Dr. med. habil. Kiss Róbert Gábor, doctor în științe medicale a absolvit Facultatea de Medicină Generală al Universității Semmelweis din Budapesta. După anii de rezidențiat a obținut diploma de specializare în medicină internă, respectiv în cardiologie. În prezent este șeful Secției de cardiologie a Clinicii Honvéd (Hungarian Defence Forces Medical Center), Budapesta și fostul președinte al Societății Maghiare de Cardiologie. Membru al Societății Europene de Cardiologie, al Colegiului American de Cardiologie menține multiple relații internaționale cu Belgia (Catholic University of Leuven, University of Liege, University of Antwerp), Wiena (Allgemeine Krankenhaus), câștigând împreună granturi de cercetare. Totodată el a înființat grupul de lucru Tromboza în Bolile Cardiovasculare în cadrul Societății Maghiare de Cardiologie, ulterior devenind președintele Societății Maghiare de Tromboză și Hemostază.

László Gellér MD, PhD, med. habil. is an associate professor at the Semmelweis University, Heart Center, he is a head of electrophysiology department.
He is a Member of Hungarian Society of Cardiology, member of the Board of Hungarian Society of Cardiology, Past President of Arrhythmia and Electrophysiology Workgroup of Hungarian Society of Cardiology (2010-2013) and the Vice-President of Hungarian Society of Cardiology (2010-), member of the European Society of Cardiology and Member of International Society for Heart Research.
He published 14 book chapters, 92 accepted papers (44 in Hungarian journals). His cumulative IF is 83,4, and independent citation is 377.
He is doing different proctorship activities: From 2008 EP proctorship for J&J, training in Hungary for more tahn 50 EP fellows from all over the world, proctorship in all EP center in Croatia, in Latvia, in Romania, in Poland, from 2008 proctrorship for Biotronic and from 2010 for Medtronic on the field of CRT, training of more than 70 EP specialist in Hungary from all over the world, in 2012 and 2015 proctorship in China.

Pál Maurovich-Horvát, MD, PhD, MPH, Assistant Professor, is the director of the Cardiovascular Imaging Research Group at the Semmelweis University in Budapest, Hungary.
Dr. Maurovich-Horvát graduated from the Semmelweis University in 2006, completed his residency at Heart and Vascular Center of the Semmelweis University, which was followed by a three-year long cardiovascular imaging research fellowship at Massachusetts General Hospital and Harvard Medical School. Dr. Maurovich-Horvát studied clinical effectiveness at the Harvard University, School of Public Health, where he graduated in 2012.
When he has returned to Hungary, he was appointed to create a new cardiac imaging clinical program at the Semmelweis University. As the director of both clinical and research programs, Dr. Maurovich-Horvát is mentoring three residents, eight medical students and six PhD students. He is the founder and the director of the Semmelweis CT Academy, which is a popular international hands-on training program for cardiologists and radiologists.
His research interest focuses on the development of new diagnostic strategies to identify high-risk coronary plaques. Recently, he and his team have successfully completed a unique research project on Hungarian twins to better understand genetic and environmental influences in development of coronary atherosclerotic plaques. Dr. Maurovich-Horvát is the recipient of one of the most prestigious scientific grant in Hungary, the “Momentum” grant of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences. He is the author of several international peer reviewed publications in the field of cardiac CT, his cumulative impact factor is 215, citations are over 1800.
